Joe Smiley
owner/Engineer
Joe Smiley has been working in recording studios since 1999. He first interned at Chill Factor Studios in Ardmore, PA. After graduating from Drexel University with a bachelor of science in music he went on to work at The Dungeon recording studio in Upper Darby, PA for a short time before founding Red Planet in 2004 with Bruce Howze. Joe also spent the past several years as a live sound engineer, performing front of house duties for R5 Productions, as well as Philadelphia venues such as the North Star Bar, Kung Fu Necktie, Milkboy Philly, and the Barbary. Some of the more notable live acts he has mixed include Baroness, Dick Dale, Dr. Dog, Marty Friedman (of Megadeth), Local H, MC Chris, Joanna Newsom, Nashville Pussy, Odd Future, Marky Ramone, Reggie and the Full Effect, Urge Overkill, and Kurt Vile. He currently plays in the band Mose Giganticus.
